A challenge for contemporary molecular cell biology is to understand the complex choreography of biomolecules, particularly proteins, in cells, and to atomic detail. This will require combined approaches to visualize and delineate how, where, when, and with which partners proteins carry out their functions in cells. Ultimately, the test of our understanding will be our ability to alter rationally and predictably protein assemblies and pathways in cells and even to design them de novo.

With these challenges and objectives in mind, the aim of this workshop is to bring together a diverse group of biophysical, biological and chemical researchers with common interests of understanding protein association and assembly in vitro and in cells. The conference will be organized in the following sessions:

  • Biology of supramolecular protein assemblies
  • Design of supramolecular protein assemblies Biology, engineering, and dynamics of protein networks
  • Biophysics of natural and engineered protein assemblies
  • Visualising natural and engineered protein assemblies in vitro and in cells Integrating biology and design in health and disease
  • Liquid-liquid phase separation: Biology, physics, and design
