Emergent Structures in Physics and Neuroscience

Scope of the meeting

The joint Weizmann-SISSA meeting on statistical physics and brain research is aimed at fostering scientific collaboration between the two research institutions.

Both institutions share a common vision of pursuing research at the top scientific level and structure whereby research is conducted by academic staff and graduate students and post graduate fellows.

Recently, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions has been signed where it is states that:

“The purpose of this MoU is to encourage scientific exchange visits and collaborations between researchers at the Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati (SISSA) and at the Weizmann Institute of Science in order to promote progress in all research areas of common interest, to build academic ties between the Parties, to collaborate on research projects and to jointly organize conferences.”

Within the context of this MoU we have identified two rather broad areas, statistical physics and brain research where forefront scientific research is being conducted in the two institutions.

We expect that the proposed workshop will provide an opportunity for scientists, students and postdocs from each institution to get intimate acquaintance with the research done at the other institute. This could lead to new collaborative projects and exchange programs of students and postdoctoral fellows.
