Timelines in Biology aims to increase the awareness to the element of time and rhythmicity in biology, by gathering together leading scientists studying various aspects of time, with a focus on circadian rhythms.

Circadian rhythmicity exists in light sensitive organisms from bacteria to humans and is governed by endogenous clocks. The recognition brought on to the circadian field by the 2017 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, inspired us to once again join leading circadian scientists to exchange ideas and stimulate discussions.

Concept:

The vocabulary used in circadian research is frequently inspired by music: We often speak of these clocks as orchestrators of internal time, leading to harmony with the environmental rhythmus. We speak of clocks as setting the tempo for physiological processes, as conductors lead their orchestra. In this event, we wish to bring the metaphors to the front and to continue their use consciously and creatively.

What to expect:

  • International speakers from various aspects of circadian research

  • Nobel laureate lecture

  • Special guest lecture: Roni Porat, conductor, composer and leadership master

  • Music and wine in our happy hour event
  • Meeting with the Cell Metabolism editor
  • Students' presentation opportiunities (chosen from abstracts)
  • A discussion panel session on future of basic science and chronobiology
  • A one-day trip to Jerusalem (Dec. 13th)
