The Brookhaven Protein Database archives experimental findings of over 3,000 proteins, nucleic acids and other biological macromolecules. Each of these data entries is an annotated ASCII text file of over 4,000 lines (300kb). Searching the entire collection is a significant problem and a slow and tedious task.

A searcher/browser under the widely used DOS platform has been developed here. The underlying database engine allows fast queries with multiple search conditions. Selected entries can be conveniently viewed, printed or stored for later retireval. Pointers to other popular databases are being added to allow easy cross-referencing. Sequences can be extracted and also searched.

The program uses a modified relational database with only selected PDB entry header record types, and allows new PDB files to be automatically converted and updated into the browser's database. Compared to PDB Browse, an existing product, this package provides more flexibility, cross-references and allows addition of new PDB files.
