Routine Maintenance

All housing units are regularly maintained by the Housing & Community Branch. Each apartment is equipped with its own inventory and in-unit amenities or appliances, which may vary between units. Routine inspections of apartment facilities are conducted approximately every six months to ensure proper upkeep and to identify maintenance needs.

Maintenance refers to technical or infrastructural issues, including electricity, plumbing, and in-apartment facilities. Assistance may also be provided in cases of furniture or appliance malfunction, as needed. Maintenance does not include cleaning services or routine household upkeep, which remain the exclusive responsibility of the resident.

Reporting maintenance issues early helps prevent minor problems from becoming more serious, supports safe and comfortable living conditions, and may reduce additional costs upon move-out, including charges related to unreported damage.

User Manuals and Appliance Guides

Each apartment includes a range of appliances and amenities, such as air-conditioning units, refrigerators, and other equipment.

To support proper and safe use, user manuals and operating guides for these appliances are available for download below.

Residents are encouraged to consult these guides before use and to contact the Housing Office if further assistance is required.

Policies and Procedures

Living in Institute housing comes with guidelines designed to support a safe, respectful, and well-functioning living environment. The information below outlines policies and procedures to help set expectations during your stay.

Alterations and Modifications

Residents are prohibited from making any changes or additions to the apartment and its surroundings. This includes, but is not limited to, drilling holes, hammering nails, attaching fixtures, or placing stickers on walls, doors, or surfaces. Any form of structural, electrical, or other modification, including demolition work or installations of any kind, is strictly prohibited.

Apartment Inventory and Condition

Each apartment includes an inventory of furniture, appliances, and amenities, which may vary between units. Residents are expected to maintain the apartment and its contents in reasonable condition throughout their stay.

Placing additional furniture in the apartment, removing existing furniture, or accumulating excessive belongings is not permitted. Residents may not install a washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, heater, or any other electrical appliance. Residents may not transfer furniture, appliances, or any other unit contents between units, rooms, balconies, apartments, or shared areas.

Building Facade

Residents may not hang laundry, carpets, signs, or flags on windows or balcony railings.

Changes in Household and Personal Status

If your personal or family status changes during your stay, you are encouraged to notify the Housing & Community Branch as early as possible. Such changes may affect housing eligibility or the suitability of the assigned apartment.
For emergency and security purposes, residents are also asked to keep the Housing & Community Branch informed of household composition and details of all individuals residing in the apartment.

Cleaning and Household Upkeep

Routine cleaning and day-to-day household upkeep are the responsibility of the resident. Maintenance services do not include cleaning or regular household care.

Community Living

Residents are expected to act with consideration and respect toward their neighbors and roommates. This includes maintaining cleanliness in shared areas, disposing of waste properly in designated locations, keeping noise at reasonable levels, and respecting the privacy and comfort of others. In shared apartments, roommates are expected to share responsibility fairly for cleaning and upkeep of common spaces, and to host guests with consideration for others, particularly during rest hours, to help maintain a comfortable living environment.

Damage and Repairs Policy

Residents are responsible for any damage caused to the apartment, its contents, or any part of the building by themselves, their guests, or anyone acting on their behalf. Any such damage must be reported promptly to the Service Center. Residents are required to cover the cost of repair or replacement, excluding reasonable wear and tear.

Early Move-Out

Residents may move out before the end of their housing contract, provided that they notify the Housing Office as soon as possible and no later than 10 business days before their move-out date. If the required notice is provided, residents will be charged only for the period they occupied the accommodation. For a partial month, the rent will be calculated on a prorated basis according to the actual number of days of occupancy.

Guests and Overnight Stays

Guests and short overnight stays are permitted on a limited basis, provided they do not interfere with the proper use of the apartment or the residential environment. Residents are fully responsible for their guests and must ensure compliance with Institute housing rules.

Overnight guest stays are permitted for up to 14 consecutive nights for guests from abroad and up to 7 nights for guests residing in Israel. Guests are not permitted in Visiting Students' housing. For extended stays or special circumstances, residents must contact the Housing Office in advance for guidance and approval.

In roommate apartments, consent of all roommates must be obtained before guests can stay. If a roommate does not agree, the guest should not stay overnight. Partners (boyfriends/girlfriends) of roommates may stay overnight no more than one night per week, and this too must be coordinated and agreed upon by all roommates.

Hosting guests does not grant any housing rights, and subletting or transferring use of the apartment is prohibited.

Housing Eligibility

Housing is provided to eligible members of the Institute community. Eligibility is related to the resident’s academic or employment status and is granted for a defined period.
