Electromechanical effects involve the change in dimensions in an applied electric field.
Piezo\Electrostrictive strain is calculated from displacement measured using a capacitance based proximity sensor. A pushrod pressed onto the sample’s surface by a spring transfers motion to the proximity sensor. The signal from the proximity sensor is then captured using a lock-in. Strain is calculated as the ratio between the displacement and the original thickness of the ceramic pellets measured by a micrometer screw gauge.
