Materials and Interfaces

Welcome to the Department of Materials and Interfaces.

The Department of Materials and Interfaces of the Weizmann Institute of Science brings a research from variety of backgrounds including chemistry, physics and materials.  It is best known with its interdisciplinary research and a collaborative spirit on all aspects of hard, soft and living matter and also unique in its focus on the properties of interfaces between difference phases of matter.  Our department is fully recognizes a theoretical and computational science to be essential in the study of materials and we are pride in the interaction between theory, computation and experimental fields.

The Department of Materials and Interfaces offers state-of-the-art facilities for all aspects of materials science research including synthesis, fabrication and chemical and physical characterization.

Our philosophy is to promote and encourage curiosity driven research, to let people to come up with conceptual innovation to draw breakthroughs, by offering students a nurturing, supporting and encouraging environment.  The different experiences and skills students acquire at the Department of Materials and Interfaces serve them successfully in later life when looking for a job or for academic career.

Our scientific activitie revolve around three major themes:
