Overview Quantum Sensing

Our group uses single defects in diamond to sense and control magnetic properties of molecules on the nanoscale. To do that we combine atomic force microscopy together with confocal fluorescence microscopy. Using optical initialization and readout allows us to work both at room temperature and at low (4.2 K) temperature, and by using microwaves, we can manipulate the spin state of both our sensor and the molecule under investigation. This coincidentally enables us to treat both sensor and target as qubits, and so another aspect of our research revolves around combining different qubit technologies (nanomechanical resonators, superconducting circuits) with spin qubits in diamond.
