Prof. Shira Raveh-Rubin's lab, Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences

Noy Klaider is a PhD student in the dynamical meteorology group led by Prof. Shira Raveh-Rubin in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, at the Weizmann Institute of Science. Her research focuses on the atmospheric drivers of high-impact weather events. She previously earned an MSc in Atmospheric Science at Weizmann under the supervision of Prof. Raveh-Rubin, studying the climatology and drivers of global cold extremes, and a BSc in Environmental Engineering from the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, including a semester abroad at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
In her PhD research, Noy investigates how extratropical synoptic-scale dynamics influence tropical extreme weather events and their predictability. By improving our understanding of the links between weather systems across different regions, her work aims to support more accurate forecasts in tropical areas, where vulnerability to weather extremes is often high.
Beyond academia, Noy worked as an environmental engineer, contributing to the development of Israel’s national air pollution emissions inventory. She has also been involved in environmental activism, including efforts to better understand and reduce the impacts of air pollution in the Haifa Bay area.
