Adobe Creative Cloud

A bundle of software applications and additional Adobe online services for creation, editing, design, sharing and publishing of graphic documents. Adobe’s cloud-based services also enable you to build and publish Web sites and mobile device applications.

The bundle provides single users and work groups with desktop computer access to all Adobe Creative Suite applications, including Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Illustrator, InDesign, Encore, Flash Pro, DreamWeaver, Acrobat and more. Subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud offers access to new software applications and upgrades, immediately upon their release.

Adobe Creative Cloud offers cloud-based storage and folder synchronization, enabling you to easily share ideas with colleagues. Each Creative Cloud for Teams member is provided with 100 GBs of cloud storage.

Software is installed on a personal computer, with usage requiring an Internet connection. License validity is verified by an Adobe server once every 90 days. Licensing is personal, as per user e-mail address.

The licensing renewal date is common to everyone throughout the Institute. Billing is performed as per the relative amount of time remaining in the current year, until the nearest renewal billing date.

Microsoft IUCC (Inter-University Computing Center) Campus Agreement 2016 Renewal

It is with great pleasure that we announce an agreement for the renewal of our Microsoft Campus Agreement under the IUCC, a 3-year agreement which licenses all Microsoft products in use by the Weizmann Institute (and other universities).

Key elements of the new 2016 campus agreement

• The Microsoft Campus agreement is based on FTE (Full Time Equivalent) count of seats within the institution, including faculty, staff and administration.
• We are licensed for the Windows 7, 8 and 10 Enterprise versions that include some key improvements:
  • MDOP (Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack), a package that enables the use of up to four virtual machines (VM) under the hosting computer. A VM machine is like a regular application, but running a chosen Operating System (OS) as if it were a separate computer. It can be used for development, so that it will not interfere with the end-user environment on the hosting computer.
  • SoftGrid is also part of the MDOP package. It enables virtualization on an application level, without the need to install anything on your computer. It is typically managed centrally, and different users may run different applications based on their functions in the organization.
  • Language Pack is a package that provides a native Language User Interface without deep integration into the operating system, making it easier to toggle your computer to a Hebrew interface.
  • BitLocker, a package that enables the creation of an encrypted volume on your computer to protect your data. This is best used for laptop/mobile computers.
• Office 2013 Professional Plus is now an extended package that includes Microsoft Project and Microsoft Visio. These were previously standalone products that had to be purchased separately.
• The Enterprise CAL (Client Access License) Suite level provides the following significant advantages:
  • Enterprise Level CAL for Microsoft Exchange, a leading e-mail system by Microsoft used around the world.
  • Enterprise Level CAL for Microsoft SharePoint, a leading collaboration tool for sharing information among groups, with a portal user interface that is easy to both use and create.
  • Enterprise Level CAL for Microsoft Communications Server, a unified communication platform that integrates between e-mail, voicemail, instant messaging, video, fax transmission/receipt, etc. The key advantage is the fact it is integrated in single software clients, such as desktop, Web-based and mobile Outlook applications.
  • Enterprise level CAL for other products, such as Microsoft Terminal Services, which provides the ability to work in a hosted environment, with a server farm hosting your application, the app running on the server, and the end-user given access to screen, keyboard and mouse only; Microsoft SQL, which connects to databases in the work environment; Microsoft Operation Center, which provides management and monitoring of (desktop or server) computing resources in the organization; Microsoft Forefront, a security protection application providing anti-virus- and firewall-level protection to desktops and servers.

Significance for Institute faculty, staff and administration

• By entering a Campus level agreement with Microsoft, the IT Infrastructure Branch has successfully represented the needs and requirements of Weizmann collectively, for the transparent use of Microsoft products according to the legal obligation stated by the Microsoft End-User License agreement.
• We are witnessing the proliferation of new tools, services and a significant new direction in the Microsoft world. We at Weizmann also want to take part in implementing Microsoft technology into our workflow, as has been done in other universities in Israel and/or abroad. We continue to examine, different options including the implementation of Microsoft Exchange Mail to replace existing legacy systems, the Microsoft Sharepoint platform to improve the Collaboration and Data sharing among Weizmann groups in the Institution, and the list goes on.
• The Microsoft Campus Agreement is the foundation for our abilities to leverage Microsoft products, services and technology for the benefit of the greater Weizmann community.

EndNote Product IUCC (Inter-University Computing Center) Volume Purchase Agreement

The IT Infrastructure Branch is pleased to announce a new joint agreement with IUCC in which we have established a volume purchasing group for EndNote products, together with all IUCC member universities.

As part of the new agreement, licensing structure for EndNote software will change from perpetual license, as was the case in the past, to subscription model. Based on the new subscription model, we are now entitled to use the software for the agreement term of three years, during which period we are to be granted free upgrades of the software.

Principles of the EndNote agreement

• Subscription license model vs. perpetual license (purchase), subscription for three years with free software upgrade rights included for PC and Macintosh platforms.
• Updates to be available electronically via Web/Internet download.
• We may increase our subscription seats in increments of 50 bundles. The IT Infrastructure Branch will manage such increases in licenses as needed, together with IUCC.
• The subscription increase price will remain the same, pro-rated to the term date, calculated annually.

MATLAB TAH (Total Academic Head-Count) Campus Agreement

MATLAB Licensing Model for IUCC Universities

Following a steady increase in MATLAB purchases and related license costs, Machba was offered the opportunity to transfer into a new Licensing model: TAH - Total Academic Headcount, which is fundamentally different from the previous model (which was limited to per registered seats), and provides a solution to growing MATLAB needs.

Elements of the TAH License (Unlimited for academic use)

• A unified Machba license for all participating members.
• The ability to use a larger set of software tools, with ease of installation and license management.
• A toolset containing 50 different toolboxes, which include the majority of tools used in academic research.
• Unlimited access for all users across the campus, including faculty, staff and students on all levels.
• The rights for unlimited installations on additional computers (home desktops, laptops) used by faculty, staff, and graduate-degree students, for academic use.
• License renewal will occur annually.
• The right to add a "Child License" for other software tools not included in the base program.
• Under sponsorship of Systematics, we will be holding seminar days at the institute, towards increasing awareness and knowledgeability among existing and potential users, and so as to bring further departments on board, with additional (paying) users.

Purchasing Microsoft Software Products for Personal Use

This service is available to Weizmann Institute students only.

To purchase Microsoft Windows:

1. Log into Internal Services on your browser.
2. Click Microsoft Products.

1. Accept the agreement by clicking Click Here To Purchase.
2. Select the product you would like to purchase (the Institute’s agreement with Microsoft enables you to purchase no more than a single copy of each software product).

5. Choose the preferred language and click Add To Cart.
6. When ready to complete your purchase, click Check-Out. You may pay for the purchase with a credit card or a PayPal account.
7. Copy the grey user ID and signature into the Username and Signature (type name) fields, respectively, then click Accept.

8. Fill out your contact and billing information in the relevant fields, then click Bill to this Address and Continue.
9. On the confirmation page, click Proceed With Order.
10. On completing the purchase, be sure to download any setup files and copy the software product key (displayed in red) for future reference. Important: your access to the setup files and product keys will be revoked 30 days from the date of purchase.
11. Proceed with product installation as per the instructions provided.
