The 1st Structural Bioinformatics Meeting at ISMB
29-30 July 2004, Glasgow, Scotland, UK
We are happy to announce 3Dsig, the first 2-day Special Interest Group meeting on Structural Bioinformatics. Two full days (don't plan anything for the evening!), will include a balanced mix of invited talks, short presentations (selected from the laptop-session submissions) and panel discussions. As this is the first Structural Bioinformatics special interest group event, we are seeking new ways to make it innovative, informative, engaging and stimulating. To this end, only eight talks will be from invited speakers (see program), the rest will be chosen on the basis of the abstracts received. The program committee will be looking for fresh, effective voices, and fresh, potentially high impact, ideas and results. The final session program will be build around the accepted and invited talks.
In addition to selection of short presentations from the abstracts, all accepted abstract material will be presented through the medium of laptops, rather than traditional posters. This is an experiment in communication, and we hope that it will result in more intensive interactions between presenters and other participants.
UPDATES: - 101 abstracts are available online (full abstracts, short table format). These abstracts were composed by 299 authors (author index linked to abstracts).
- Laptop Session - This session will be split each day into 2 groups. Abstracts 1-50 will have one hour followed by abstracts 51-93 (the next day the order will be flipped). The laptop session will have numbered stations only for people who do not present their abstract orally. Presentations should be kept short (3-5 minutes). A central place will be available for further discussions as well as presentation/discussion by authors who are also giving an oral presentation. Last, we do hope that we will have permanent electricity for all laptop session participants.
- The PROGRAM includes: 8 invited speakers (Rob Russell, Ron Unger, Luis Serrano, Gunnar von Heijne, Michael Sternberg, Philip Bourne, Cyrus Chothia), 2 discussions (Chairs: David Jones, Gideon Schreiber), 1 after-dinner round table (Chair - John Moult, Participants - Geoffrey Barton, Douglas Brutlag, Arne Elofsson, John Norvell, Janet Thornton), 20 oral presentations, and 2 Laptop Sessions. The program is organized in 8 sessions (Chairs: Miriam Eisenstein, David Gilbert, Kim Henrick, Kevin Karplus, BK Lee, Ilan Samish, Vladimir Sobolev, Haim Wolfson).
Key Dates: - May 24th 2004 - Closed. Deadline for submitting an abstract to the laptop session AND for an oral presentation.
- June 18th 2004 - Closed. Announcement of the 20 abstracts selected to give an oral presentation. Soon after this deadline the full program and online abstracts will be posted.
- June 21st 2004 - Closed. Early registration deadline to the main ISMB/ECCB2004 conference (see registration). Note, there is no early registration deadline to 3Dsig. Further, you may register only to 3Dsig and not to the main ISMB/ECCB2004 conference.
