Microsoft Exchange 2010
Following a thorough evaluation of email platforms and alternatives, Microsoft Exchange 2010 has been selected as the next unified email system for Weizmann. The program was approved by Weizmann’s
Executive Management staff, and therefore the IT Infrastructure Branch has
begun the implementation of Design / Build / Rollout of Exchange 2010, migrating all users from our 2 current email systems (Groupwise or OCS) to the Exchange platform.
Exchange 2010 offers the following advantages and services:
- The ability to deliver one, unified, solution to all users in WIS that includes a rich, native, interface for PC/Mac users, as well as Hebrew support
- Common resources: calendars, reserving meeting rooms, a contacts system, etc.
- a tasks system, with follow up
- Rich Web Access (http://xmail.weizmann.ac.il) interface via the internet (Outlook Web Access - OWA), supported by the popular browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari), which allow users easy and friendly internet access from romote locations, at home, or via mobile connections.
- Smooth interface with Office from all external devices (smart phones, palms, etc.)
- Support for large mailboxes
- Smart phones synchronization support
- With thousands of installations in Israel, both in large complex organizations and in academic institutions, Exchange is the most widely used mail platform in Israel, and is therefore well-known and supported.
