The Helen and Milton A. Kimmelman Building

Kimmelman Building

The Kimmelman building was established with the assistance of the Sieff, Marks, and Sacher families, and was dedicated in 1964 on the thirtieth anniversary of the dedication of the adjoining Daniel Sieff Research Institute. The building originaly contained the Bergmann Institute of Organic Chemistry, named for Prof. Ernst David Bergmann (1903-1975), the first scientific director of both the Sieff Institute and the Weizmann Institute of Science.

From 1972 to 1992, the building also housed the Department of Structural Chemistry.

Thanks to the generosity of Helen Kimmel, The Helen and Milton A Kimmelman Center for the Study of Biomolecular Structure and Assembly was established here in 1988, and the building was enlarged by the addition of two floors in 1995.

The Helen and Milton A. Kimmelman Building was dedicated on November 13, 1995. It houses the Department of Structural Biology, most of the Department of Organic Chemistry [the remainder is housed in the attached Sieff Building], and a number of research centers, such as the Kimmel Center for Molecular Design, the Kimmelman Center for Biomolecular Structure and Assembly, and the Mazer Center for Structural Biology.
