Jean Goldwurm

The Jean Goldwurm 3D Visualization Theater at the Weizmann Institute of Science is a unique facility in Israel, and one of only a few in the academic world. It came about thanks to a generous gift from Mrs. Iva Goldwurm in memory of her late husband, Jean, who was a pioneer in avant-garde cinema in New York City. The 3D Theater enables researchers not only to view, in three dimensions, the details of key biological molecules such as proteins and nucleic acids, but even more importantly, to manipulate and design into these molecules lead compounds which hold potential as drug-based therapies for a wide range of diseases. The Theater will also be used by scientists wishing to examine MRI brain scans or design new robotic processes, among numerous other scientific applications which require real-time visualization in three dimensions. The Jean Goldwurm 3D Visualization Theatre was conceived and implemented by Joel L. Sussman, Harry M. Greenblatt, Michael Elbaum and Sharon Wolf, all of the Weizmann Institute´s Faculty of Chemistry. The facility is located in the Wix Auditorium at the Weizmann Institute. For scheduling use of the 3D Theater, please contact H. M. Greenblatt.
