On September 25, more than 200 members of Toronto’s philanthropic community came together at the Four Seasons Hotel for Weizmann Canada’s Celebrating Philanthropy featuring Wonderful Women.

This year marked the first of a new format for Celebrating Philanthropy. While the event continues to celebrate the Weizmann family and highlight new and cutting-edge research and initiatives, it also features one of Weizmann Canada’s strategic initiatives to help raise awareness and give Canadians the opportunity to be part of science for the benefit of humanity.

In its inaugural year we chose to highlight our Wonderful Women, raising funds in support of the Israel National Postdoctoral Award Program for Advancing Women in Science. The evening’s keynote speaker was Dr. Roberta Bondar, Canada's first female astronaut and the first neurologist in space. Dr. Bondar also moderated a panel of three postdoctoral award recipients, Naama Aviram, Elena Meirzadeh and Shira Weingarten-Gabbay, who spoke about the importance of empowering women to pursue careers in science.
