On April 16, the Institute hosted Daniel Werthein with his wife Susana Pesis of Argentina and the Argentina’s new ambassador in Israel, Dr. Mariano Caucino. The visit included a stop at the San Martin Clubhouse to view a new plaque honoring the historical contribution of the Argentinian Jewish community to the Weizmann Institute.

The Werthein family has had a longtime relationship with the Weizmann Institute. Daniel Werthein visited the Weizmann Institute for last in 1959 as a young boy, together with his parents and his brothers. His father, Noel Werthein, was a distinguished member of the Argentine Jewish Argentine community and Treasurer of the Argentinean Society of Friends of the Weizmann Institute of Science. Noel brought his wife and three children to the Institute and erected a plaque at that time of the donors to what was became known as ‘Casa San Martin’, as depicted in the picture of the 1959 ceremony.

A new plaque was erected in the current ceremony, describing the history of the building and its naming for José de San Martín.
