On December 6, Weizmann Institute President Prof. Daniel Zajfman spoke at a gathering of business and academic professionals at the offices of Grupo Insud in Buenos Aires. His topic: “How a small research institute in a small country can make a global impact”. He discussed the Institute’s climb to one of the world’s major powerhouses in basic science research. Grupo Insud founder and CEO Hugo Sigman and his wife, biochemist Silvia Gold, hosted the event.

“Nothing has done more for humanity than science,” said Prof. Zajfman. “Science demands curiosity, and curiosity is the main engine of innovation. He discussed the Institute’s hiring strategy that involves hiring the best-of-the-best scientists, rather than filling a quota in certain fields or departments.

“An excellent scientist is someone who not only has knowledge but asks questions all the time; is humble because he understands that there is a lot that he does not know; and feels passion about his ideas—enough to devote his life to them," he said.

Lino Barañao, Minister of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation, also participated in the meeting, as well as Israel’s Ambassador to Argentina, Ilan Sztulman;  Director General of Science and Technology, Augusto Clément; and university rectors, business managers, and researchers.
