Where Science Meets Art

Ziva Botner | Photographs
"A Moment Before, A Moment After"
Raoul and Graziella de Picciotto Building for Scientific and Technical Support, 1st floor

What lies beyond the horizon? What is waiting to unfold if and when a closed door is opened? Ziva Botner captures fleeting moments — dynamic yet enigmatic, concealing as much as they reveal. In her images, the sun is setting, doors are shut — but the flowers are blooming in their full, intoxicating vitality. “Ever since I can remember,” she reflects, “I have taken snapshots in my memory. Even without a camera.”

Are these images a promise of hope? After all, isn’t tomorrow “another day”? Will the door open when the time comes? Or do they hint at an approaching end? The setting sun, the closed door, and the flowers, having had their moment, will naturally wither with time. The artist leaves the interpretation to us, with quiet faith that we will choose to turn our gaze toward the good.
