Overview of the timeline of annual submission deadlines for popular funding agencies

Note that the deadlines referred to below are all agency’s deadlines. As per WIS management instruction, grant proposals must be submitted for evaluation by the RGP, with a budget approved by Finance, at least one week to 10 days prior to the funding agency’s deadline noted below.

External:

  • Binational Agricultural Research and Development Fund (BARD):
    Research Grants: On an annual basis, with deadline in early- or mid-September
  • Binational Science Foundation (BSF):
    • Regular Research Grants: On an annual basis, with yearly-alternating research areas, deadline in mid-November
    • BSF-NSF Programs: Different programs have various deadlines; most programs allow for year-round submission 
  • Deutsche - Israelische Projektkooperation (DIP):
    Research Grants: On an annual basis, with pre-proposal deadline in early January, and full proposal deadline (for those invited to submit) in late March
  • EU – Horizon Europe:
    Deadlines in each scheme are not set to a specific period and therefore their timing cannot be predicted prior to the call publication by the agency.
    • ERC: Starting Grant (StG), Consolidator Grant (CoG), Early Advanced Grant (AdG), and Proof of Concept (PoC): Once a year with changing deadlines
    • MSCA: Postdoctoral Fellowships (PF), Doctoral Networks (DN), and Staff Exchanges(SE): Once a year with changing deadlines
  • German-Israeli Foundation for Scientific Research and Development (GIF):
    Nexus Program: On an annual basis, with yearly-alternating research areas, deadline in late October or early November
  • Israel Ministry of Agriculture (IMOA):
    Chief Scientist Central Fund Research Grants: On an annual basis, deadline changing. In addition, various Special Calls for different sectors are published throughout the year
  • Israel Ministry of Health (IMOH):
    There are no regular deadlines for the various IMOH calls, although some are repeated on annual or semi-annual basis 
  • Israel Ministry of Science (IMOS/MOST):
    • National Track Research Grants program has an annual deadline in February and additional calls throughout the year.
    • Some International Track calls are repeated annually (e.g., with Germany) whereas others are unforseen.
  • Israel Science Foundation (ISF):
    • Main Program - Individual Research Grants: On an annual basis, with deadline in early November
    • Breakthrough Research Grants ("MAPATZ") and Biomedical Research Grants ("MAVRI"): On an annual basis, with deadline in early November
    • New Faculty grants and Mid-Career grants: On an annual basis, with deadline in late November
  • Minerva Foundation:
    • Research Grants: On an annual basis, pre-proposal deadline in mid-December to early January; full proposal deadline (for those invited to submit) in early March
    • Minerva Group Visits/Workshops: On an annual basis, with deadline in mid-June
  • United States National Institutes of Health (NIH):
    Three annual submission deadlines: in 5 February, 5 June and 5 October. In addition, specific calls for proposals with various deadlines are published on a weekly basis in the RGP bulletin
  • United Stated DOD Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP):
    Various programs reoccur on a yearly basis with interchanging call categories; there are no set deadlines, however most of these calls tend to have either March, April, or May deadlines
  • United States DOD - Defense Advanced Research Projects Administration (DARPA):
    DARPA calls are published individually, with neither pre-determined subjects nor recurring deadlines
