Rina Hershkowitz was a founding member of the Mathematics Group in the Department of Science Teaching at the Weizmann Institute of Science (1967). Along her intensive teaching of Mathematics and Physics in Junior and High school she became aware of new programs in mathematics, which started to be implemented in a few countries outside Israel. Her first activities in the mathematics group, focused mainly on curriculum design, in-service teacher education and formative evaluation. She led main curriculum projects of the Mathematics Group in the department, such as the CompuMath Project, established in 1993 as part from the Ministry of Education’s initiative to benefit from computerized tools advantages for teaching and learning.

With the years, Rina became involved intensively in math-education research, rooted in her practice and vice versa - her research interest and findings contributed to her curriculum development and implementation works.
