The ‘Anatomy of a Lab’ session, led by incoming Vice President for Resource Development Prof. Roee Ozeri, gave an overview of the key human components of a scientific lab—from the principal investigator to the staff scientist to the postdoctoral fellows and the students. At the same time, the session honored and thanked a series of donors who have recently supported scientists and staff in various labs on campus.

The session highlighted a talk Dr. Takashi Kawashima of the Department of Neurobiology, who was hired early this year. He is the first incumbent of the Birnbach Family Career Development Chair.

Larry Blumberg and Robin Lynn were also honored for establishing the Blumberg Family Research Fellow Chair in Memory of Talia Lynn Steckman. The chair’s first incumbent is Dr. Lital Adler of the Department of Biological Regulation.

Marcos Pinheiro de Andrade and Vanessa Buchheim were celebrated for their establishment of a new postdoctoral fellowship, the Paulo Pinheiro de Andrade Fellowship. Dr. Javier Maria Peralta Ramos, a postdoc in the Department of Neurobiology, who is from Argentina, spoke about his research and what it is like being a postdoc at the Weizmann Institute.

Tom Manowitz, a student in the lab of Prof. Roee Ozeri’s lab in the Department of the Physics of Complex Systems, spoke about his research on quantum science and its implications for a new computing age.
