The Dutch Friends of the Weizmann Institute of Science, chaired by Mr. Yossi Herman initiated the idea for a joint conference, which the Friends supported, bringing together researchers from the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) and the Weizmann Institute of Science on basic and translational cancer research. The conference took place September 2-6.

Twenty-five researchers from NKI joined their peers at the Weizmann Institute for five in-depth sessions on various areas of cancer research including new targets and mechanisms of therapy resistance, the tumor microenvironment, and cancer immunotherapy. The conference is already bearing fruit through active cooperation between the research groups and plans are in the works for a follow-up conference, scheduled for mid-2018 in Amsterdam. The conference was organized by Prof. Moshe Oren, Director of the Moross Integrated Cancer Center at the Weizmann Institute; Prof. Benjamin Geiger of the Department of Molecular Cell Biology; Prof. Daniel Peeper of NKI; and Prof. Reuven Agami of NKI.
