WYEN retreat to Israel

Date: Tuesday, December 11, 2018

Fifteen members of the European Young Business Club of the Weizmann Young European Network (WYEN) enjoyed a three-day retreat in Israel and to the campus of the Weizmann Institute of Science. WYEN members were exposed to the fascinating new research being conducted by young, leading Weizmann scientists.

Prof. Daniel Zajfman, the President of the Weizmann Institute, and his wife Joëlle, hosted the group for a private dinner in their home. The following day, participants enjoyed an adventurous trip to Ramon Crater, the world's largest erosion crater, in the Negev desert. They rode camels and experienced warm Bedouin hospitality. At night, they went stargazing with telescopes in the desert, deepening their understanding of the “map of the stars” and enjoyed stories, wine, and a good atmosphere. The following day, the guests participated in other outdoor activities.

The highlight of the retreat was a meeting with Weizmann Vibe, the next generation club of the Israeli Friends of the Weizmann Institute, at a “Science on Tap” event at a Tel Aviv pub. The event featured a fascinating talk by Prof. Oded Aharonson of the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences on “planetary exploration and the search for life in the universe.”
