Friends and supporters from Europe and around the world came together at a festive digital event in January celebrating the 60th anniversary of the European Committee of the Weizmann Institute of Science (ECWIS).
Chairs of all the European friends’ societies and the Weizmann Young European Network (WYEN) were in attendance.
The event was emceed by Robert (Bob) Drake, Chair of ECWIS, Vice Chair of Weizmann’s International Board, and a member of the Executive Board. The historic involvement of European friends in supporting the Institute was on display: past and present leadership and world-renowned scientists all recounted their own pieces of the six-decade-long story.
Weizmann Institute President Prof. Alon Chen shared plans for the future Institute for Brain and Neural Sciences, and René Braginsky, former Chair of the Swiss Society and a member of the International Board, described projects supported by the Braginsky Center for the Interface between Science and the Humanities. A dance performance, “Evolve,” by Kornelia Lech and Yotam Baruch, highlighted a unique collaboration between the dancers, choreographer Shahar Binyamini, and Prof. Ofer Feinerman from the Department of Physics of Complex Systems. The event also highlighted European alumni of the Bessie F. Lawrence International Science Summer Institute (ISSI) program.
