Revitalizing the Australian partnership
The Weizmann Institute actively fosters international collaborations with leading organizations worldwide, recognizing them as essential for sharing knowledge and partnering on impactful, globally focused scientific research.
In Sydney, Australia, the prestigious Garvan Institute of Medical Research is a key member of the global Weizmann network and together, these two esteemed institutions are revitalizing and bolstering their joint efforts, paving the way for groundbreaking advancements.
Established in 2017, the Garvan- Weizmann collaboration originally focused on scientific projects across a host of domains, including cancer immunotherapy, diabetes, myeloma, and autoimmune diseases. This valuable partnership also included scientific exchange programs and fellowships that allowed Weizmann and Garvan investigators to work at both institutions, promoting a robust scientific exchange with the potential to yield far-reaching and impactful results.
Now, in 2024 (following a hiatus brought about by the coronavirus pandemic), this exciting partnership between Weizmann and Garvan, and Israel and Australia, is being reinvigorated. Weizmann’s Vice President for Development and Communications Prof. Roee Ozeri and Garvan’s Executive Director Prof. Benjamin Kile have appointed Weizmann Prof. Rivka Dikstein and Garvan Assoc. Prof. Sarah Kummerfeld to the helm of this scientific endeavor and issued a call for proposals to establish new joint research projects in the fields of genomics, immunology, and cancer.
The collaboration will also recommence scientific exchange programs and joint symposia to further enhance the ties between these two great institutions.
