Weizmann Canada presented the Outstanding Leadership Award to Dr. Daniel C. Andreae during the annual Celebrating Philanthropy Event in Toronto on October 16. Established in 2012 to honour and recognize the exemplary efforts of volunteers, the Outstanding Leadership Award is given to Weizmann Canada’s most dedicated and deserving supporters—those who have demonstrated sincere dedication to the Institute and who work tirelessly to ensure our continued success.

Dr. Andreae became involved with Weizmann Canada in 2014 when he was chosen as an honouree for the Leading Men Gala. At this prestigious event, Dan was recognized for his distinguished academic career, as well as his outstanding work as a leader and community advocate.

From 2015 to 2017, Dan served as a Director on Weizmann Canada’s National Board of Directors. Since 2017, he has served as a Special Advisor to Weizmann Canada. In this role, Dan acts as an ‘ambassador’, helping to raise awareness of the Weizmann Institute of Science. He has also had a major impact on the Toronto Weizmann League for young professionals, advising them and helping them to secure funds for their events. Dan was presented the volunteer award by Toronto Weizmann League co-chair Zachary Schwartz.

Committed to science for the benefit of humanity, Dan generously supports the research of Dr. Ivo Spiegel from the Department of Neurobiology. Dr. Spiegel studies the age-old question of nature vs. nurture and to what extent experience and environment dictate brain function. His lab, in Dan’s name, was inaugurated last year during a moving ceremony on the campus of the Weizmann Institute.
