Wonderful Women event launch in Calgary

Date: Wednesday, June 26, 2019

On April 11, the Calgary Chapter of Weizmann Canada hosted Celebrating Women in Science and Innovation at the Skyline Room. Part of the Wonderful Women series and the first to be hosted in Western Canada, the event was dedicated to celebrating and empowering women scientists and promoting their life-changing research. The evening featured guest speakers Dr. Elizabeth Cannon, University of Calgary President Emerita and Professor of Geomatics Engineering, and Prof. Irit Sagi, a Weizmann Institute of Science biophysicist and Dean of the Feinberg Graduate School.

“The event represented a unique opportunity to learn and network with inspiring and accomplished women,” says Deborah Yedlin, Chancellor of the University of Calgary and co-chair of the Calgary event. “Dr. Cannon and Prof. Sagi are examples of women who have achieved not only great success in their careers and research, but who are also amazing role models for the next generation of young female scientists.”

Proceeds raised from the event will help support the Israel National Postdoctoral Award Program for Advancing Women in Science.
