The new Argentine Ambassador in Israel, Sergio Urribarri, visited the Weizmann Institute on July 30 after taking office, and initiated a joint effort to support Argentine PhD Fellowships for 2021.

Guided by Dany Schmit, CEO for External Relations in Latin America, and accompanied by embassy officials Lucila Caviglia and Andres Rojas, Mr. Urribarri met with the Institute’s Vice President for Resource Development, Prof. Roee Ozeri, and Argentine PhD student Javier Peralta Ramos. He also visited the San Martin House, built in the late 1950’s with the support of Argentinian donors.

“We want to open up the possibility for Argentinian scientists to participate in one of the most important multidisciplinary research centers in the world,” said Mr. Urribarri. The effort includes offering PhD scholarships project for Argentinian scientists in a joint effort with Argentinian scientific institutions, the local Weizmann friends association, and the Weizmann Institute. Positions for two outstanding Argentinian scientists will be publicized early 2021.
