Dear friends,

I am honored and privileged to begin my term as Chair of the International Board of the Weizmann Institute of Science. I am fully aware of the magnitude of the responsibility that comes with this position, and welcome the challenges ahead – namely to strengthen the bond between the Weizmann Institute and worldwide community of friends and supporters.

The Weizmann Institute has been a major part of my life, and my family’s life, for as long as I can remember. For me, the Institute and its scientists, through their practice of basic scientific research, represent hope for a better tomorrow for the entire planet. Even during a global pandemic, Weizmann Institute scientists continue to explore the mysteries of the Universe around us, by appealing to their own curiosity and asking the right questions. This ability to explore fundamental questions for no other purpose than the expansion of human knowledge itself is a virtue worth celebrating.

In times such as these, as uncertainty has penetrated many aspects of our daily life, we need a solid foundation to depend on. Over the past year, scientific research has proven to be this beacon of hope, and the Weizmann Institute is a lighthouse. Despite it being a small institution, the impact of the Weizmann Institute on the scientific community is immense. I am extremely proud to be associated with the Institute and its International Board.

Over the next three years, I intend to work closely with the management of the Weizmann Institute, led by Prof. Alon Chen, and support their various endeavors as best as I can. It is up to us, members of the International Board, to provide much-needed support for the Institute and its management, so that our scientists can continue to succeed in their research, and reach new heights.

I would like to thank the International Board for electing me as Chair, and promise to fulfill my duties as best I can.

The Executive Board is the Institute’s most senior governing body, responsible – among other things – for the election of the President of the Institute, approval of the annual budget, and the appointment of important committees, for example the Assets Committee and the Investment ad-hoc Committee.

The most important task of the Executive Board is to help the management of the Weizmann Institute of Science navigate the Institute towards prosperity and success. Through regular meetings and discussions, and by becoming engaged in various committees and think-tanks, members of the Executive Board have the power to influence the future of the Weizmann Institute and help guarantee its prosperity and success.
