Admission Requirements for MD-PhD Program (For BSc/MSc Graduates)

  • Academic Qualifications:
    • Applicants must hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in science (BSc/MSc), engineering, nursing, or other health-related fields (excluding humanities and social sciences), with a minimum average grade of 85.
    • Students who have completed their second year of undergraduate studies in these disciplines may apply. However, please note that admission to the program requires the completion of a bachelor’s degree before the program's commencement.
    • Graduates with a master’s degree must have achieved a minimum average grade of 85 in their bachelor’s studies and a minimum average grade of 90 in their master’s program.
       
  • Core Course Requirements: 
    There are core course requirements for all applicants. Please note that the names of the courses may vary between institutions. 
    Core courses have a validity period limited to 10 years. In cases where up to two core courses were completed between 10 and 11 years ago, the application will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee.
    A minimum grade of 80 is required in each of the seven core courses.
    Candidates with up to two core course grades in the range of 75-80 may still be eligible for consideration.
    When a core course is composed of two components, an average grade above 80 is required. the individual grades of each component are not considered separately.
     

    The core courses include:

    • Biochemistry - 4 credits
    • Cell Biology - 4 credits
    • Molecular Biology - 4 credits
    • Microbiology - 4 credits
    • Physiology - 4 credits
    • Genetics - 3 credits
    • Statistics - 3 credits

Third-year MD students in a six-year program may apply with a minimum average grade of 85, without any requirements for grades in core courses.

  • Knowledge Test:

    • Evaluation of the foundational knowledge in the seven required core courses organized by Tel-Aviv University. Candidates can register for the test using this link.
      Please note that this year, we will accept the grade from either round of the knowledge test (Moed A or Moed B).
    • Students who have successfully completed the first three years of a six-year medical school program in Israel, or the first two years of a four-year medical school program in Israel, are exempt from the Knowledge Test.
    • Minimum Requirement: A score of 300 or higher on the knowledge test.

     

  • Citizenship: 

    Applications will be accepted only from Israeli citizens or permanent residents.
     

  • Hebrew Proficiency: 

    Applicants holding both an overseas high school diploma and an overseas bachelor's degree must pass the YAEL Hebrew proficiency

    test with a minimum grade of 120; all other combinations are exempt.
     

  • Limit on Number of Applications: 

    Applicants may apply for the program up to three times. After three unsuccessful attempts, further applications will not be accepted.
     

  • Reserve Duty Policy 
    Considering the ongoing security situation and the impact of reserve duty on applicants, we have decided to adopt certain decisions made by the Deans' Forum for four-year programs and grant accommodation to reservists and their spouses. 

  • Key Aspects of the Policy
    Validity of Core courses – Extended to 11 years (instead of 10 years).
    Lower Course/Degree Grade Threshold for Application:
    Core courses – Minimum required course grade: 75.
    Bachelor’s degree – Minimum required GPA: 83.
    Master’s degree – Minimum required GPA: 88.
     

        Eligibility for Accommodations

       Applicants seeking accommodation under the reserve duty policy must submit supporting documentation verifying their reserve service,        which must meet one of the categories listed below. Specific accommodation for each category is detailed in the attached table:
