Genome Evolution and Biodiversity

We are interested to understand how species are formed and evolve.  We are studying the effect of hybridity and polyploidy on genome evolution in wheat and in yeast.  In addition we are studying wheat biodiversity, in wild wheat populations and during the process of domestication.

Meiotic Recombination

We are interested to understand the genetic and epigenetic factors that control of the rate of meiotic recombination.

Genome Engineering

We are harnessing DNA double stranded break repair pathway to achieve precise engineering of plant genomes.  We are developing methods for targeted gene knockout, targeted induction of crossover and gene targeting.  In addition we are studying patterns of DNA integration of the T-DNA vector from Agrobacterium tumefaciens.
