We use the System for Atmospheric Modeling (SAM) Model (version 6.10.3) for conducting Large Eddy Simulations (LES) of cloud fields together with an explicit Spectral Bin Microphysics scheme and a 3D cloud tracking algorithm developed in our group for tracking the properties of individual clouds in fields’ simulations, throughout their lifecycle (Heiblum et al., 2016). We simulate boundary layer cloud fields (MSc and warm cumulus) using different environmental (thermodynamic) conditions, e.g., along the TARA route. Cloud fields’ properties will be are examined as a function of changes in the sea surface properties, thermodynamic conditions, and aerosol properties. We use the TARA measurements and remote sensing data of sea surface and aerosol properties to initialize the model.
