AWARD MECHANISMS:
SCIENTIFIC AREAS:
- Krim Fellowships: Applicants must be conducting basic biomedical research to be considered for funding in this program. Fellowship research projects should pertain to HIV prevention or treatment, including viral eradication.
- HIV Persistence and Potential Eradication Fellowships: amfAR wishes to support basic, clinical, and especially translational research exploring the mechanisms whereby HIV infection persists; the chronic nature of viral reservoirs and latency; and barriers to the eradication of HIV, with the potential goal of ultimately eliminating HIV infection.

- Letter of Intent: 6 July 2011 - to the RGP (to reach AMFAR by 13 July 2011).
- Full Proposal: 7 September 2011 - to the RGP (to reach AMFAR by 14 September 2011 tentatively, and ONLY for those invited to submit).
- HIV Persistence and Potential Eradication Fellowships -
- Letter of Intent:
- Email: 1 August 2011 - to amfAR.
- Hard copies: 31 July 2011 - to the RGP (to arrive at amfAR by 23 September).
- Full Proposal: Tentatively, 8 September 2011 - to the RGP (to reach amfAR by 15 September 2011) - only for those invited to submit.
ACTIVATION DATE:
- Krim Fellowships: December 2011.
- HIV Persistence and Potential Eradication Fellowships: 1 November 2011.
MODE OF APPLICATION: Krim Fellowship guidelines and HIV Persistence and Potential Eradication Fellowship guidelines should be used in preparing the letters of intent.
Letter of intent (LOI) forms and instructions may be obtained by sending an email to grants@amfar.org including:
- fellowship applicant’s name
- mentor’s name
- institution
- proposed project title
Letters of intent should be submitted to the RGP in 2 hard copies, as well as by e-mail to grants@amfar.org and with a CC to RGP Office in (Adobe PDF or Microsoft Word) format. Please make sure to provide confirmation from the Feinberg Graduate School that the post-doctoral candidate is approved for post-doc status at the Weizmann Institute for the duration of the proposed fellowship.
