SCIENTIFIC AREAS: The aim of the CCS, which was founded by the Horowitz Foundation in cooperation with the academic institutes, is to support research in the field of Complexity Science. Complexity Science is a developing research field that has existed for many years, yet was never defined as a means to advance inter-disciplinary research. Complexity Science entails both a general overview as well as research of the connection between influential factors in the fields of biology, physics, chemistry, engineering, and behavioral sciences. The following types of fellowships and request for the support of meeting,conference and seminar are available:
- Ph.D. and Post-doctoral Fellowships
- Young Scientist Fellowships (see ELIGIBILITY below)
- Request for the support of meeting, conference or seminar
ELIGIBILITY:
- Young Scientist Fellowships: Weizmann Institute Senior Scientists, appointed (or to be appointed) on or after 1 October 2006, who have not previously submitted a fellowship application to the CCS and who will not be holding an Alon Fellowship during the relevant award period.
AMOUNT:
- Ph.D. Fellowships: 75,000 NIS per year.
- Post-doctoral Fellowships: 90,000 NIS per year.
- Young Scientist Fellowships:
- Senior Scientist: 170,000 NIS per year.
SUPPORT PERIOD:
- Ph.D. Fellowships: 3 academic years.
- Post-doctoral Fellowships: 2 academic years.
- Young Scientist Fellowships: 3 academic years.
SUBMISSION DATE(S):
- Fellowships: 21 February 2008 (Letter of Intent) - to the RGP (to reach the CCS by 28 February 2008).
- Meeting/Conference Support: Open to submission throughout the year.
MODE OF APPLICATION:
Download the CCS Letter of Intent (LOI) guidelines and forms.
- Ph.D. and Post-doctoral Fellowships: Applications should be submitted to the Feinberg Graduate School.
- Young Scientist Fellowships: LOIs should be submitted electronically to the CCS (with a CC to the RGP Office). Upon receipt of the e-mail and attachment, an e-mail message will be returned displaying a request serial number. LOIs including the request serial number should be submitted to the RGP Office in 9 hard copies. Applicants whose LOIs have been selected will receive an invitation to submit a full application from the CCS by the beginning of May 2008, and will have 1.5 - 2 months to prepare and submit the application. Final decisions should be provided to the applicants by August 2007.
- Request for the support of meeting, conference or seminar: Download the guidelines and forms. Applications should be submitted electronically to the CCS (with a CC to the RGP Office).
OTHER TYPES of AWARDS OFFERED by the CCS: Research Grants are available; the CCS has also announced a Short-Term Sabbatical program.
