AWARD MECHANISM(S):

  • Conference grants: Organizers can apply for a one-off conference or a conference that they expect to be part of a series of conferences, for up to €30,000 per conference, held at two or three yearly intervals in EMBC Member States, with at least 150 participants.
  • Workshop grants: Intended for stand-alone meetings, for up to €30,000 per workshop, with up to 120 participants (including speakers).
  • Practical courses: Designed to enable participating students to implement newly learned techniques in their home laboratories. Approximately 20 participants (generally early stage postdoctoral researchers and advanced PhD students) should be accepted, for up to €30,000 per course.
  • Lecture courses: EMBO and the FEBS will annually support 3-5 Joint Lecture Courses on relevant, timely scientific topics in biochemistry, molecular biology and related areas such as systems biology, for up to €40,000 per course.
  • Global exchange lecture series: Supports lecture series by EMBO Members in non-European countries for travel costs (usually apex/economy) up to €3,500. Priority is given to lecture series involving institutes in partner countries that have a cooperation agreement with EMBO.
  • Global exchange lecture courses: Scientists resident outside of Europe pair up with European scientists to organize lecture courses for 30 – 60 participants, intended for local PhD students and post-docs for up to €20,000 per course.
  • ESF-EMBO Symposia: A series of meetings for participants and experts from the Life Sciences and other science disciplines to discuss interdisciplinary topics that are of major importance to the scientific community in Europe. They generally last for four or five days with up to 150 participants and speakers, and up to €30,000 per symposium grant.
  • Laboratory management courses: Intended for postdocs and independent grouop leaders, the courses help fill a skills gap for scientists. The courses cover hiring of staff, leadership and team development, communication as well as conflict management and problem solving.
SUBMISSION DATE(S):
  • Global exchange lecture series: At least 6 months before the planned lecture series.
  • ESF-EMBO Symposia: 3 months before the event
  • Laboratory management courses: Dates available here.
    All other projects, 2 cycles:
  • 21 February 2013 - to the RGP (to reach EMBO by 1 March 2013).
  • 25 July 2013 - to the RGP (to reach EMBO by 1 August 2013).
