Israel Science Foundation (ISF) - Research Workshops (for scientists with active ISF grants)
ISF / Israel Science Foundation (founded by the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities: "The Academy")
RGP / Research Grants and Projects Office
WEBSITE: Access the ISF website.
SCIENTIFIC AREAS: Workshops may be organized in all scientific areas supported by ISF funding. Workshops should be planned to include 30-40 scientists and to last 3-5 days. The workshops will take place in Israel, and an attempt should be made to include scientists from abroad (it is recommended that 25% of the scientists come from abroad).
ELIGIBILITY and GENERAL GUIDELINES:
- For scientists with active ISF Centers of Excellence ("Mokdei Mechkar") grants, Bikura grants or ISF Individual Research grants, beginning the second year of their grant, who wish to organize Research Workshops related to the areas funded by the ISF.
- For scientists whose funding from the ISF has ended, within a year of the end date.
- One workshop per grant.
- Funding is intended for workshops which will take place in the current academic cycle, after April 1, or in the following academic year.
- A workshop cannot be part of larger scientific conference but may follow it.
- Resubmission of rejected applications is not allowed.
AMOUNT:
- Up to ₪70,000 will be provided by the ISF per Workshop, which will represent up to 75% of the total Workshop budget. At least 25% of the funding must be provided by the organizing Institute or another source of funding.
- Up to ₪140,000 if organized in conjunction with the Hebrew University Institute for Advanced Studies. 62.5% of the budget from the Institute and 37.5% of the budget from the ISF. See here for details.
SUBMISSION DATE(S):
- Online registration: Prior to the submission deadline.
- Full proposal: 25 November 2012 - to the RGP (to reach the ISF by 2 December 2012).
MODE OF APPLICATION:
- Online registration - via the ISF website. The registration form must be completed and submitted in ONE SESSION. The application number obtained at the completion of the online registration process should be used when completing the full application form.
- Full application: The application must be prepared according to ISF guidelines and on ISF forms and submitted both online and to the RGP in 3 hard copies.
Note: The ISF have requested that a number of points be brought to the attention of researchers who have received or who are applying for a Research Workshop:
- Any change in or deviation from the approved program, including the date or venue of the workshop, must receive a priori approval from the ISF
- The name of the workshop must be: "Research Workshop of the Israel Science Foundation" (in English, or the equivalent in Hebrew)
- The logo of the ISF must be used
- Any publication relating to the workshop, including presentations, advertisements, websites, posters, invitations, announcements, program, and conference proceedings, must include the aforementioned title and logo
- The workshop poster/announcement and the program must be submitted to the ISF for approval
|
| Note: The ISF website is open for registration. All applicants must register on the ISF website PRIOR to proposal submission. The registration form must be completed and submitted in one session - it is not possible to save a partially completed form and return to complete it later. This is, however, a very short procedure and should be done WELL in advance of the submission deadline. Problems registering? Call the RGP (Tel.: 3822). Please note that the ISF provides only four options for "academic rank" - Prof., Assoc. Prof., Senior Lecturer, or Lecturer. Senior Scientists should select the Senior Lecturer option. Please note that Staff Scientists may NOT independently submit research grants or submit grants with researchers from other institutions, UNLESS the application includes a Weizmann Institute group leader as PI. Staff Scientists participating in an application in which these conditions are met should select academic rank as follows (as the ISF is not willing to add these ranks to their list): Junior Staff Scientists and Staff Scientists should select the Lecturer option, while Assoc. and Senior Staff Scientists should select the Senior Lecturer option. |
| Note: As it is a Weizmann Institute requirement that the Finance Division approve the budget before the RGP can endorse an application, it is strongly recommended that the budget be submitted for approval as early as possible. Since on occasion the budget must be modified by the researcher further to input received by the Finance Division, the RGP recommends that with the assistance of the Departmental Administrator (Minhalan), the budget be prepared and submitted for approval to the Finance Division, if possible, even before the scientific parts of the application are complete. |
