AWARD MECHANISM: The Safed Scientific Workshop program funds scientific conferences, workshops and summer schools in the Greater Safed area. The program is now soliciting proposals for 2012-13. Funding is available for four conferences, with grant sizes of $15K. Organizers are welcome, and in fact encouraged, to obtain additional funding from other sources to supplement this sum. Full local logistical support for conference matters is available free of charge for those awarded grants. Scientific conferences may include (1) major international meetings; (2) workshops designed to promote informal exchange on frontier scientific problems; (3) schools focused on making state-of-the-art research problems and methods accessible to graduate students and postdocs. Number of participants will normally be between 30 and 80. The duration will normally be for 5-6 days, but innovative proposals for longer programs are welcome.

SCIENTIFIC AREAS: Areas for which funding will be considered include physics, chemistry, materials, mathematics, computer science, biology and science teaching. Interdisciplinary meetings are particularly encouraged. Priority will be given to meetings that are likely to have a significant impact on the education and training of young Israeli scientists, to promote new areas of frontline scientific research, and to bring major international figures in a field to Israel.
