AWARD MECHANISM: The Career Transition Award supports TSC researchers during the transition from postdoctoral training to an independent position. This award will cover up to two years of postdoctoral training followed by up to two years of a faculty-level position. Postdoctoral Investigators with at least two years of postdoctoral experience by the time of application submission are eligible to submit applications. The award is for up to $338,000 plus indirect costs for 4 years.

SCIENTIFIC AREAS: Innovative research focused on decreasing the clinical impact of tuberous sclerosis complex. The TSCRP Mission and Focus Areas:

  • In vivo study of pathobiology of clinical manifestations of TSC (e.g., epilepsy, cognitive, renal).
  • Long-term benefits and side effects of rapamycin and homologues in TSC patients.
  • Identification of novel strategies for treatment and prevention of TSC (e.g., cytotoxic drugs, epilepsy treatments, psychotropic agents).
  • Understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms of TSC (including cell origin, cell-type specificity, and developmental stage).
  • Genetic and non-genetic modifiers of TSC.
  • Identifying biomarkers for prognosis and prediction of treatment outcomes (including imaging, electrophysiology, and pharmacogenetics).
SUBMISSION DATE(S):
  • Letter of Intent: 18 July 2011.
  • Full Application: 25 July 2011 - to the RGP (to reach the CDMRP by 1 August 2011).

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the nature of the US Army's online submission system via Grants.gov and the subsequent automated application checks, which in certain cases require SEVERAL SUBMISSION ITERATIONS before the application is finally accepted for review (based on RGP past experience with submissions via Grants.gov), it is imperative that you submit all relevant documents to the RGP Office for review TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO THE DEADLINE! Failure to comply with this request may result in our inability to process the application in time for submission!

MODE OF APPLICATION: Guidelines are available on the TSCRP website. Submission is a two-step process requiring both (1) pre-application submission through the CDMRP eReceipt system and (2) application submission through Grants.gov. Please make sure to provide confirmation from the Feinberg Graduate School that the post-doctoral candidate is approved for post-doc status at the Weizmann Institute for the duration of the proposed fellowship. Please make sure to provide the RGP with a copy of your application for review at least two weeks in advance of the submission deadline, and of the final submitted application for follow-up purposes.
