Geostrophic turbulence

Turbulent eddies set the climate and weather of the mid-latitudes, as they are responsible for most of the energy transport across different longitudes and latitudes. It is thus critical to understand the behvior of mid-latitutde eddies. Extant theories for the behavior of these eddies, such as geostrophic turbulence, rely on the theoretical work of two-dimensional turbulence. By using these theories we aim to unravel the mechanisms underlying the state of the eddy flow, and its intercation with the mean flow.
