Rational enzyme design

We are rationally designing the active sites of enzymes involved in the UDP-glucose pyrophosphorylase pathway of cellulose biosynthesis in G. hirsutum to enhance their catalytic activity toward glucose and different glucose derivatives by applying a combination of theoretical (i.e. optimized protein expression, protein structure estimation, modelling, and active site mutations) and experimental approaches (heterologous protein expression, activity determination).
