The elucidation of the quantitative rules which govern complex physiological systems is one of the grand scientific challenges of today. In order to strengthen this emerging discipline, specifically as it applies to advancing our understanding of immunity and host-pathogen interactions, we created the Nir Friedman prize.

Prof. Nir Friedman (1968 – 2021) was an outstanding scientist, who combined a background in physics with a passion for immunology, and in a short career, tragically curtailed by illness, made several fundamental contributions to systems immunology.

The prize will be awarded to Ph.D. student for original and outstanding Ph.D. research work conducted at one of the Israeli Universities and Research Institutions in the field of Systems-level Infection Biology and Immunology. The prize of 10K ILS, will be presented to the student at an annual event dedicated to the memory of Nir Friedman.

Nomination of candidates for the prize should include the following documents:

  • A recommendation letter by the Ph.D. mentor
  • Up to 2 additional support letters from experts in the field
  • A summary of the candidate’s research (up to 2 pages)
  • Curriculum vitae and updated list of publications of the candidate (including submitted papers and preprints)

The deadline for the nomination in the 2024 cycle is: March 28th, 2024
