Housing

• In one, two or three bedroom apartment. Singles are accommodated in shared apartments where each visitor has a separate bedroom and share the other facilities.

  Postdoctoral Fellows are also entitled to lodgings provided by the Office of Visiting Scientists (VSO), subject to availability.

• Located in the Lunenfeld - Kunin Residence, the Europe House or the Kipnis Complex.

• Furnishings
  The apartments are all air conditioned. They contain a refrigerator, gas range, electric oven, electric kettle, simple furniture, simple linens and towels, simple dishes, cutlery, pots and pans.

• Utilities: Gas, Electricity, Telephone, Cable TV and wireless Internet are included in the rent.
  • Note: Utilities included in the rent are the average consumption of gas, electricity and telephone usage, determined by the Finance Division. Visitors will be charged for above average usage.

Per Diem

• Up to 60 days / visit

• Rates:
     If staying in San Martin Guest House or one of the above apartments, up to 300 NIS / day
     If there are no vacancies in the San Martin Guest House or in one of the above apartments, up to 460 NIS / day

Remuneration

• Remuneration of non-Israeli visiting scientists or Israeli scientists who permanently reside outside of Israel,if any, is conditional on the availability of an arranged funding at the disposal of the host and is limited to a maximum of:

  Assistant Staff Scientist or Scientist:		12,300 NIS/month
  Senior Scientist or Assistant Professor:		13,400 NIS / month
  Senior Staff Scientist or Associate Professor :		14,800 NIS / month
  Professor:		17,100 NIS / month

  The above quotes do not include:

  Social security tax and income tax. See http://www.weizmann.ac.il/vs/customs.html

  Employer's taxes, between 15% and 21%, depending on:   a. the treaty signed between Israel and the guest's country, if there is one.   b. possible additional updates from the Finance Ministry.

  Visiting Scientists may also be guests at the Weizmann Institute from their own funds.

  • Israeli visiting scientists coming from an Israeli institution may receive remuneration only if they have a written authorization from their home Institution.
• Taxes for non-Israeli visiting scientists (includes National Security and Income Tax):
  • about 10% the first year
  • about 20% the second year

• Taxes for Postdoctoral Fellows
  • about 1%

• Taxes for Non-Resident Israeli visiting scientists
  • Same status as non-Israeli visiting scientist on presentation of foreign passport

• Travel Expenses
  • A full or partial refund of air fare, boat fare, or train fare may be given by the host department or fellowship.

Billing / Pay slip

A pay slip, including all billing deductions, is sent to the host department at the end of each month.

General Assistance

General assistance is offered in many areas, including help in adaptating to a new environment, visas, health-related matters, schooling, car registration, general information.

Handbook

We send a handbook to all future visitors by mail, or refer them to our web site.
Duties and rights of a visiting scientists are outlined in the Standard Visiting Scientists Agreement and the Intellectual Property Agreement, for visiting scientists not receiving any funds and for visiting scientists receiving funds.
