 Categories

	B-2 (Tourist)	Issued (before arrival or upon arrival at the airport, depending on nationality) to Visiting Scientists and to accompanying persons. Can be extended by the Ministry of the Interior for up to a maximum of 24 consecutive months.
	B-1 (Temporary work permit)	Issued in Israel -to visiting scientists receiving funding. The Office of Visiting Scientists will assist you in changing a B-2 tourist visa to a B-1 working permit. The decision to grant a temporary permit rests with the Ministry of the Interior. Note: A person accompanying a visiting scientist (i.e. a holder of a B-2 visa) can be granted a working permit (B-1 visa) only if he or she received a job proposal before entering the country.
	Multiple Entries Visa	Issued to B-1 visa holders wishing to leave and return before their visa expires.
	A-2	Issued to students and postdoctoral fellows (includes multiple entries). Note:  A-2 visa holders cannot obtain any B visa while in the country.
	A-4	Issued to accompanying persons of A-2 visa holders (includes multiple entries).

 Renewal/Extension/Change of B-category visas

Two weeks before the expiration of your visa, call the Office of Visiting Scientists to set up an appointment. Come to our office with:

• a multiple entry visa form (Page 1,  Page 2)
• a filled-out application form, which can be printed from Page 1,  Page 2
• your passport
• one passport-size picture
• proof of insurance coverage until the end of your visit
• NIS 145 for extension/change of visa category (B-2 to B-1)
• Additional NIS 145 for multiple entries

 It is important to remember that:

• Your passport must be valid for 3 or 6 months (depending on nationality) beyond the date of the requested visa.
• Your visa must be extended on time. A fine is levied by law for every month's delay (for each passport holder, including children).
• A valid medical insurance certificate is required for the duration of the period of the requested extension of the visa.
• B-1 visa holders: You must have the required re-entry visa if you intend to leave Israel and return.
