How Do Minerals Trap Organic Carbon?

We study the co-precipitation and surface binding of organic matter onto minerals. These processes influence the long-term preservation of carbon and the Earth's climate history.

Developing New Geochemical Tools

To unlock ancient environmental signals, we need better tools. Our lab is developing novel geochemical and isotopic techniques. From custom-designed synthesis experiments to high-resolution spectroscopic and isotope methods, we aim to push the boundaries of what minerals can reveal about Earth's history and dynamics.

Reconstructing Ancient Ocean Chemistry

Ophiolites--ancient slices of oceanic crust exposed on land--offer a rare opportunity to explore Earth’s deep past. We investigate how well these rocks preserve signals of past seawater chemistry by comparing them to modern oceanic crust analogs.
