Five Years, Hundreds of Ideas, Real-World Impact: Inside Bina’s Unique Model
Innovating for a Better Tomorrow
At the Weizmann Institute of Science ,ranked 6th globally for research quality by Leiden in 2025, groundbreaking discoveries are part of the scientific landscape. However, the path from basic research to industry is full of obstacles, with genuine gaps between academic breakthroughs and market perspectives.
Five years ago, Bina was established with the goal of ensuring that brilliant science developed at Weizmann is translated into real-world impact.
A Novel Approach for Driving Discovery to Application
Bina’s structure is unique: the team members are professionals who understand research and development, curiosity and commercialization, vision and execution.
Each project receives the dedicated resources and guidance needed for success, following specialized methodologies developed on site, laying the groundwork for technology transfer carried out by YEDA - Technology Transfer Company of Weizmann Institute of Science . A Bina project manager, with both a PhD and industry experience, leads the project throughout, complemented by executive professional consultants.
Together, this support structure provides what early-stage science requires: a clear and rigorous supportive framework helping promising discoveries to evolve into necessary market solutions.
Transforming the Culture of Innovation
Bina is enriching the innovation landscape at Weizmann by offering researchers practical tools and pathways for advancing scientific discoveries that have the potential to benefit society. Introducing programs like Idea to Action, the Bina Innovation Fellowship, ABC Talks, and supporting international exchanges and collaborations, Bina is actively building a community of researchers with the strategic mindset needed to navigate and contribute to the translational world.
Impact on Motion
In just five years, Bina has transformed promising discoveries into real-world opportunities, pushing forward new technologies and ventures. From over 70 funded projects to more than a dozen technologies transferred to Yeda, and seven new startups and licensing deals.
Looking ahead, it is Bina’s mission to deepen its influence: expanding the scientific projects and training cohorts, creating more challenge forums with industry and clinical partners, announcing new translational courses and programs, growing international collaborations and introducing new partners that bring strong opportunities - all to ensure that excellent science is advanced to create meaningful impact.
Stay tuned - the next scientific breakthroughs are already taking shape
