Crystal Growth Lab

Floating Zone Crystal Growth

Laser based traveling-solvent floating-zone furnace for synthesis of large high purity single crystals. Ideal for synthesis of transition metal oxides and intermetallic compounds. Read more

Flux Growth and CVT

Flux growth and Chemical Vapor Transport. For a majority of quantum materials of strong current interest crystals are grown with these two techniques, including for example transition metal dichalcogenides. Read more.

Air Sensitive Materials

The argon glove box provides a mini lab with inert atmosphere for the preparation and storage of air and humidity sensitive compounds and chemicals, keeping oxygen and humidity levels below 1 ppm. It is equipped with a precision balance, grinder, pellet press, and digital microscope for crystal assessment.

Powder Preparation

The preparation of homogeneous powders often is the first step of the synthesis process. Read more

Furnaces

Various tube and box furnaces with maximum temperatures between 1100 °C and 1700 °C. Read more

Sample Cutting and Polishing

A range of cutting and polishing tools are available to prepare ideal sample geometries. Read more
