A burning man | Eyal Halfon
The winner of the Best Israeli Film Award at the Haifa International Film Festival, which also won Shai Avivi the Best Actor Award:
A father drives his soldier son to a remote military base, where he says goodbye and is immediately seized by a deep-seated anxiety, terrified he may never see his son again. The man, in his mid-fifties, plants himself near the camp's fence, refusing to leave as if his unwavering presence could somehow shield his son.
His own life is at a standstill, too, forcing him to confront long-avoided decisions that will set his future back in motion. As he waits, a series of unexpected visitors appear and vanish. Still, Yona Kimchi remains beneath the tree - waiting for news, or for a greeting.
