סרט שובה לב שלוקח את הצופה למסע דרך חייה של אחת מהנשים האייקוניות בהיסטוריה, פרידה קאלו.
היא היתה אמנית דיוקנאות עצמיים פורה, שהשתמשה בבד הציור כבבואה לכל שלבי חייה הסוערים, שלעיתים אף היו טרגיים. בעזרת תערוכות מרכזיות וראיונות עם אוצרי פרידה קאלו מכל העולם, הסרט בוחן את הסמליות והנושאים יוצאי הדופן בציורים האישיים האלה ומנסה להבין לעומק מי היא פרידה קאלו האמיתית.

סרט אישי ואינטימי המציג אוצר של צבע וחגיגה של חיים על המסך, מציע גישה חסרת תקדים ליצירותיה ומדגיש את המקורות ליצירתיות הקודחת שלה, החוסן והתאווה שלה לחיים, גברים, נשים, פוליטיקה ולמורשתה התרבותית.
