| Abstract | Show full text abstract about We use the Structure-Function (SF) method to analyse X-ray f...» We use the Structure-Function (SF) method to analyse X-ray fluctuations in
RXTE and NXMM data of about 20 Seyfert nuclei. Linear correlation is found
between the break-timescale in the fluctuation spectrum (Tb) and the black
hole mass Mbh. The robustness of the SF method enables us to double the data
set available by the power spectral density method and the resulting
correlation between X-ray spectral break and Mbh (e.g. McHardy 2004;06).
The Mbh-Tb correlation seems to extrapolate to lower masses, e.g. to Cyg
X-1 other Galactic BHs and to low mass AGNs. This may predict a common
physical mechanism for X-ray variability in accreting BHs of stellar mass
and AGNs.
