Prof. Erez is a professor of tumor biology at the Weizmann Institute of Science. Her research focuses on deciphering the biology of tumor metastasis and uncovering the role of the metastatic microenvironment. Her laboratory identified mechanisms by which cancer-associated fibroblasts mediate inflammation and immune suppression that facilitate breast cancer metastasis, and characterized the role of neuroinflammation and astrocytes in supporting brain metastasis. Her lab established immune-competent mouse models of spontaneous metastasis to multiple organs, including brain and bone.
She did her MSc and PhD at the Weizmann Institute of Science, and her Postdoctoral fellowship with Prof. Doug Hanahan at UCSF.
Prof. Erez is the former Vice Dean at TAU Faculty of Medicine. She is a board member of the EACR, President of the Israeli Society for Cancer Research (ISCR), President-Elect of the Metastasis Research Society (MRS), and Director of The Morris Kahn Institute for Human Immunology at the Weizmann Institute. Neta is also an enthusiastic mentor and advocate for women in science. She dedicates time and effort to nurturing young scientists and established a mentoring program for women PhD students. She won multiple awards for teaching, outstanding scientific achievements, and mentoring.
